Tidal volume changes of RIP signals

Tidal Volume changes

Overview

The RIP band extensions cause voltage changes, that correspond to volume changes. The RIP voltage changes can be calibrated to a known volume, but this is not accurate, see [Rimensberger2015] p.327.

Details

The volume changes are calculated in the RIP app for each respiration cycle for the RC- and the AB- and RC+AB signal. Therefore two quantities are calculated for each signal, which are similar to tidal volumes. Analog to the inspiratory tidal volume, the RC (AB or RC+AB) signal is integrated between an inspiratory- and the following expiratory onset. Furthermore the quantity similar to the expiratory tidal volume is calculated as the integrated RC (AB or RC+AB) signal between an expiratory- and the following inspiratory onset.
The volume change of one respiratory cycle is the respective quantity similar to the inspiratory tidal volume minus the respective quantity similar to the expiratory tidal volume.

FRC changes are not visible in the tidal volume changes.
